Hi, I'm Alvy, an MBA student at Oregon State University. My journey here wasn't easy, I had to take extra courses like INTO and the GMAT because I was missing some credits. But after discussing my background and skills with the admissions team, I got an exception and was accepted into the MBA program, choosing marketing as my focus.
During my studies, I worked as part of the International Student Success Team. One day, I had the chance to attend a private dinner with the dean and top academic students. I was the only grad student there! We talked about my background, my goals, and why I chose an MBA. That conversation led me to connect with the CIO of an organization at the university.
After the winter break, something incredible happened. Associate Dean John Becker emailed me with an offer to become the first student in a brand-new cybersecurity MBA program. As an international student, this was a huge honor! Looking back, I never imagined this would be possible, especially since I struggled with English when I first arrived.
Now, as I finish my MBA, I'm also helping build materials and a lab for future students in the Supply Chain & Cybersecurity Management program. It's been an amazing journey, and I hope my story shows that with dedication, networking, and perseverance, anything is possible even if you start with challenges!
